Suraj was not right for Jiah, she was too much in love with him: Zarina Wahab
In a tell-all interview, the veteran actor speaks about the controversy surrounding her son’s involvement with Jiah Khan and says let him suffer the consequences if he has indeed done anything wrong
Zarina Wahab says she agrees with Jiah Khan’s mother that her son Suraj Pancholi was not the right person for the Nishabd actor, who died last week. Jiah committed suicide at her residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area on June 3. She was 25. On June 13, a Mumbai court sent Suraj, actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina’s son, to judicial custody till June 27 on charges of abetting the suicide of Jiah, who used the word “rape” in a six-page letter.
On an impulse, Zarina decided to pay an unannounced visit to Jiah’s mother Rabiya Khan aka Rabia Amin on June 11. The meeting between the two grieving mothers apparently didn’t go too well.
When contacted, Zarina she said she had indeed paid Jiah’s mother a visit. “But it was not to pacify her or to work out any compromise in my son’s favour. If he has done any wrong let him suffer the consequences,” said the Chitchor fame actor.
“No, I went just as one mother reaching out to another. I suggested we go inside the house because there were a lot of media persons outside. Rabiyaji was in no mood for any conversation with me. I wouldn’t want to discuss what we spoke about.”
On June 7, police recovered a note purportedly written by the actor speaking about her disturbed relationship with her alleged boyfriend Suraj.
Jiah’s mother claims that her daughter took the drastic step not due to the lack of assignments, but due to her troubled relationship with Suraj. “When Rabiyajiji says my son Suraj was not the right person for her daughter, I completely agree with her. Jiah needed someone much more mature and experienced to take care of her,” Zarina said.
“My son is just starting out. Jiah is supposed to have said in the letter that my son never loved her the way she did. I completely agree with that. Jiah was too much in love with my son. He just couldn’t reciprocate in the same measure. But he cared deeply for her in his own way.”
Zarina revealed that on May 18 Jiah landed up at the Pancholis’ doorstep in an emotionally disturbed condition. “She told us she had quarreled with her mother. She was very upset. Suraj sat her down. He had a doctor’s appointment. So he told others in the house not to leave her alone for a single moment. Suraj knew she could harm herself,” she added.
Zarina also refutes Rabiyaji‘s claims that Suraj sent a “breakup bouquet” to Jiah on the ill-fated on Monday when she passed away. “That is nonsense. What is a breakup bouquet? Jiah told Suraj that she had signed three new films. Suraj told his assistant to order a bouquet and the card read, ‘All the Best’. I know because I found out,” she revealed.
“Suraj did not meet Jiah that Monday at all. So how could he have hit her? In fact, my son never raised his hand on Jiah or any women. I would disown him if he did. Her mother claims she has CCTV footage of my son visiting Jiah on Monday. Either she is hallucinating or lying. My son did not meet Jiah on the day she died,” said Zarina.

Apparently, at Ritesh Sidhwani's house party post the screening of Fukrey, SRK and Arbaaz were seen being warm and cordial with each other. Though Salman was also invited for the screening and party he couldn't make it as he was busy shooting for Mental. Arbaaz had once mentioned his desire to work with King Khan.

Talwar has also secured exclusive rights to use the best songs from Dutt’s cinema
At last that film on the life and loves of master storyteller Guru Dutt, which every prominent filmmaker wants to make, will be made by Dharm fame Bhavna Talwar. What’s more, she has secured exclusive rights to use all the celebrated songs from Dutt’s cinema.
Shedding light on her ambitious Guru Dutt biopic, Bhavna said, “It would look at the man and the filmmaker from one range of vision, mine. There will be lots of music. But only what is required. We won’t over-use Guru Dutt’s vast repertoire of music just because we have access to it.”
Sachin Dev Burman, Sahir Ludhianvi, Geeta Dutt and Mohammed Rafi…the super-iconic music makers were an integral part of Dutt’s cinema. And now immortal songs such as Jaane kya tune kahi, Waqt ne kiya kya haseen situm, Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye toh kya hai and Dekhi zamanein ki yaari would now feature as part of the biopic.
Saregama/HMV, the oldest and most well-stocked music company of the country, which owns the copyright for all the songs and music of Dutt’s cinema, has given Bhavna the exclusive right to use the entire body of Guru Dutt’s music.
Adarsh Gupta, Business Head, Saregama, confirmed the deal. As for Dutt’s family raising objections to the biopic, a source close to Bhavna’s film said, “We’re very clear on the legal aspect of filming a real-life personality. We’ll only be using information on Guru Dutt that is in the public domain.”

I don’t need glycerine to cry on screen: Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor says she goes so deep into the characters she plays that she makes herself unwell.
Actress Sonam Kapoor likes to keep it as natural as possible when she is on front of the camera, and says she can't use glycerine to cry for a movie scene.
"I go so deep into the character that I make myself unwell. It becomes disturbing at times. I have taken training for acting for a year. I can never cry with the help of glycerine. Whenever I cry on screen I cry naturally, if I am happy, I am genuinely happy on screen," Sonam told IANS.
Sonam, who is awaiting the release of her forthcoming film Raanjhanaa, says she doesn't mind giving umpteen retakes until her director is satisfied.
"I am a director's actor. If my acting is appreciated, it's because of the director, and if it's not appreciated, it's all again because of the director. I will keep giving them takes till they are convinced," she added.

Mumbai, June 13 (IANS) Choreographer Terence Lewis calls actress Madhuri Dixit the last dancing legend and adds that choreographerSaroj Khan was instrumental in shaping her career.
"When it comes to Bollywood dancing, choreographing and making stars out of the biggest stars, it has been Saroj-ji - be it Sridevi orMadhuri," the 38-year-old said here at the announcement of a dance talent hunt show "20-20 Dance Competition".

Mumbai, June 13 (IANS) Shah Rukh Khan's romantic roles may have made him quite popular among his female fans, but it seems Rohit Shetty, director of his film "Chennai Express", is giving him tough competion. The Bollywood Badshah says girls find the "Golmaal" series director more attractive than him.
"This is for the first time I am working with a director where they find him (the director) more attractive than me. Girls find Rohit more attractive than me. Next time if I am working with him, I will have to probably cover up his face," Shah Rukh told reporters Thursday at the first look launch of "Chennai Express".
Last seen in triangular love saga "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", Shah Rukh says it's easier to do action in Shetty's film than love songs in any other movie.
Praising the team, he said they "take care of action scene so well that it is so safe, harmless and gentle".
"It's easier to do action in Rohit's film than doing a love song in any other film. I can actually think I can be an action hero, but only in his films," he added.
Shetty's vision is wonderful, says SRK who has teamed up with him for the first time.
"I think most important is his vision. He writes the film with different vision and that's the hallmark of Rohit. His work speaks volumes. He has a fantastic team," said the Bollywood Badshah.
Initially, release date of "Chennai Express" clashed with Akshay Kumar starrer underworld drama "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara" (OUATIMD) - both were scheduled to come out Aug 8.
But Balaji Motion Pictures agreed to shift the release date of OUATIMD to Aug 15 after a meeting between the Balaji head honchos and UTV bosses, SRK and Shetty.
Shah Rukh is thankful to Jeetendra, chairman of Balaji Motion Pictures, for being so understanding.
"I am really grateful to Jeetuji, who understood the thing. I think everybody should follow this. I am very thankful to him and wish the team of OUATIMD all the best," said SRK.

Shah Rukh: I think I can do action better than romance
Shah Rukh Khan seemed very happy at the trailer launch of his new film Chennai Express at IMAX, Wadala, in central Mumbai. He claimed it was a 'special moment' for the entire team, and raved about his director Rohit Shetty and co-star Deepika Padukone."Rohit is a fantastic director," Shah Rukh said. "His work speaks volumes. I had done a lot of intense roles and really wanted to do an action comedy. Chennai Express was the perfect film to do."Rohit has often been criticised for the over-the-top action sequences in his movies. Defending the director, SRK said, "I used to think the same. But after working with him, I think I can do action better than romance. He has a fantastic team of almost 200 people, who have worked really hard."The action, however, came at a price. Shah Rukh injured himself while doing a stunt, and had to undergo a shoulder surgery last month. At the trailer launch, the actor wore a fashionable sling for his injured arm.

Pooja Chopra accused of cheating
Pooja Chopra, who made her Bollywood debut withCommando, is accused of borrowing diamond earrings worth Rs. 5 lakhs from a jewellery store in Bandra. It so happened that on March 13, Pooja who was busy shooting, sent her stylist Anisha Jain to collect a few diamond earrings from the jeweler. As per her assistant's statements, she had selected one of it, but post the shoot, she couldn't locate those pieces of jewellery.
The actress claimed to have filed a complaint later and was ready to pay for all the ear rings. However, the actress later refused to do so because, according to her the police continued with the investigations and asked her not to pay until they locate these earrings.
However, the jewelers and even her ex-stylist Anisha now filed a complaint against Pooja for not paying the amount on time. The jewelers are quite miffed with the actress as she is not even ready to give a post dated cheque. However, Pooja is quite adamant about the ongoing investigations and will pay only after the investigation is complete.

Zarina Wahab meets Jiah's mother
On Tuesday evening, on an impulse, Zarina Wahab decided to pay an unannounced visit to the late Jiah Khan's mother Mrs Rabia Khan.
It was the first time that the two mothers came face to face.
The meeting between the two grieving mothers apparently didn't go too well. A friend of the Pancholis reports that Mrs Rabia Khan met the inherently gregarious Zarina coldly.
Says the friend, "Mrs Khan made it very clear she wasn't really interested in meeting Zarina Wahab, nor in talking to her. Mrs Khan had a foreigner friend named Tom with her all through the time that Zarina spent with her."
Apparently, Zarina made it clear at the outset of the meeting that she hadn't come to meet Jiah's mother for any kind of settlement regarding Sooraj Panscholi's arrest.
Says the Panscholis' friend, "Zarina said she had just come to pay a courtesy visit as one troubled mother to another. However Rabia Khan was curt, impatient and in a hurry to end the meeting. She threw a lot of accusations at Zarina saying that Sooraj ill-treated her 'phool si bachchi'. Mrs Khan also warned Zarina that she had CCTV footage of Sooraj being unkind to Jiah. Zarina tried to explain to Mrs Khan that there was no point in accusations and counter-accusations when Jiah was gone. However Mrs Khan was in no mood to listen. Funnily enough Mrs Khan's foreigner friend curtly told Zarina, 'No more questions, please!' Maybe he mistook her for a journalist. Zarina left soon after. She saw no point in delaying a conversation that was going nowhere."
When contacted Zarina Wahab said she had indeed paid Jiah's mother a visit. "But it was not to pacify her or to work out any compromise in my son's favour. If he has done any wrong let him suffer the consequences. No, I went just as one mother reaching out to another. I suggested we go inside the house because there were a lot of media persons outside. My son is just starting out. Jiah is supposed to have said in the letter that my son never loved her the way she did. I completely agree with that. Jiah was too much in love with my son. He just couldn't reciprocate in the same measure. But he cared deeply for her in his own way"
Zarina reveals that on May 18, Jiah landed up at the Panscholis' doorstep in an emotionally disturbed condition. "She told us she had quarreled with her mother. She was very upset. Sooraj sat her down. He had a doctor's appointment. So he told others in the house not to leave her alone for a single moment. Sooraj knew she could harm herself."
Zarina also refutes Rabia's claims that Sooraj sent a "breakup bouquet" to Jiah on the ill-fated Monday when she passed away. "That is nonsense. What is a breakup bouquet? Jiah told Sooraj that she had signed three new films. Sooraj told his assistant to order a bouquet and the card read, 'All The Best'. I know because I found out. Sooraj did not meet Jiah that Monday at all. So how could he have hit her? In fact my son never raised his hand on Jiah or any women. I would disown him if he did. Why is Deepika Padukone tight-lipped about her alleged affair with Ranveer Singh?
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s alleged romance has been the talk of the town since the two started working together on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ramleela. While both actors have refused to talk about what’s brewing between them, their secret meet-ups say a lot about their growing closeness
And they say there is nothing except co-star friendship between them! Last week, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were caught cozying up at a Bandra restaurant where the two went to dine without too many people knowing. They made sure not to attract any attention by making separate exits. While the Gunday actor left through the front door, his ladylove chose to sneak out the back. The duo has been seen on numerous occasions meeting secretly, during the wee hours, whiling the night away over a cup of coffee. And that’s not all, we hear! Ranveer and Dippy have been taking secret trips across states just to spend time with each other.
Earlier, the Band Baaja Baaraat actor specially drove all the way from Mumbai to Wai with an injured leg to meet Ms Padukone. Last year they were caught partying in a Dubai restaurant and were photographed getting coochie-coo intimate. And they still claim to be single!
Though Ranveer has been quite vocal about his fondness for the Race 2 babe, Dippy has always dodged questions about her chemistry with her Ramleela co-star. In the past, Deepika was quite open about her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor and didn’t mind being seen with Siddharth Mallya either. But with Ranveer, the leggy lass has been very cautious, every step of the way.
Maybe it’s Ranveer’s Casanova image that is holding Deepika back from coming out in the open about their relationship. But Dippy, your idea of hide-and-seek isn’t helping much to keep things under cover, no? So why this cat and the mouse game, we ask!

Mithun Chakraborty and Mahaakshay Chakraborty feel without them there will be no sunlight
Oh, really? Yeah…that’s what the father-son jodi resorting to some cheap antics in the song, Hit the lights from Enemmy say
Tansen had the power to light up fire through the raaga Deepak and bring down rains with Malhar. But it looks like our modern day Tansens – Mithun Chakraborty and his son Mahaakshay Chakraborty are one step ahead as they claim to control the solar system in the song, Hit the lights from director Ashu Trikha’s upcoming film, Enemmy. The lyrics are tacky and meaningless with words like Mere bin suraj na aave… hit the lights now! Now, what does that mean? We translate the so-called dance number for you. Take a look!
Main jo akhiyon se ankhiyan milaon
Main hosh uda doon
Mera jalwa main aisa dikhaon
Jaadoo sa chala doon
Thodha sa khud ko khoya
Khoya phir khud ko paaya
Oye dil mein dhadka karta hoon
Main banke sabki jaan
Main hosh uda doon
Mera jalwa main aisa dikhaon
Jaadoo sa chala doon
Thodha sa khud ko khoya
Khoya phir khud ko paaya
Oye dil mein dhadka karta hoon
Main banke sabki jaan
I if eyes with eyes mix
I conscious fly do
Mine showing something entertaining I like this show
Magic like walk do
Little own lost
Lost again own gain
Oye heart in beating
I formed all life
I conscious fly do
Mine showing something entertaining I like this show
Magic like walk do
Little own lost
Lost again own gain
Oye heart in beating
I formed all life
Mere bin suraj na aave
Hit the lights now
Bring it on now
Mere bin yeh raat na jaave
Bring it on now
Hit the lights now
Bring it on now
Mere bin yeh raat na jaave
Bring it on now
Mine without sun no come
Lagaa roshni abhi
Lao usko chalu abhi
Mine without this night no go
Lao usko chalu abhi
Lagaa roshni abhi
Lao usko chalu abhi
Mine without this night no go
Lao usko chalu abhi

Fukrey movie review: Pulkit Samrat and debutant Varun Sharma steal the show!
The movie is about four good-for-nothing Delhi laundas who come up with a plan to make easy money and fulfill their dreams
Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey is a joyride set in Delhi which will remind you a bit of Delhi Belly. The youthful comedy revolves around best buds – Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Dileep Singh aka Choocha (Varun Sharma) – who desperately want to get through the city’s coolest college (just to woo the girls). The only way their dream will come true is through some jugaad since they are not the brightest of students.
Then there is Lali (Manjeet Singh), a pakka sardar, who is studying through a correspondence course. He prays at a gurudwara every day for an admission in the same college as his girlfriend. The fourth protagonist is Zafar (Ali Faisal) aspires to become a musician. All the four protagonists bump into each other near the college and warm up to become best buddies.
Choocha dreams about weird things which Hunny decodes and eventually they always end up predicting the winning lottery number. So to pursue their dreams, the boys decide to take advantage of Choocha and Hunny’s unique talent and plan to win the state lottery. This is where Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda) enters the picture. She is the new-age female gangster, who makes a lot of moolah by selling drugs, betting and what not. You mess with her and she will screw you royally. Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar convince Bholi to invest in their foolproof plan. However, things go awry when the foursome get into trouble and are bullied by Bholi.
The first-half of the film is slow paced but the comic punches every now then keep you thoroughly entertained. Coming to the performances, Pulkit acts ably and his confidence is laudable. Newbie Varun is the surprise package and stands out with his perfect comic timing, amusing expressions and wacky characterisation. Manjeet does justice to his role and makes you laugh with his poker-faced expressions. Ali does a fine job with whatever little lines he has in the film.
While the male leads are bang on, the female actors don’t have much to do. Of the three, Richa Chadda has the meatiest role and gives an impressive performance as the boisterous Bholi Punjaban. Priya Anand and Vishaka Singh have only few scenes.
The movie is too long since all the naach-gaana is only towards the end. The signature Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani bromance style that we saw in Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Rock On!! is sadly missing in Fukrey. But good performances and a well-infused comedy in the script is what makes it worth watching.

Highway stills: Alia Bhatt and Imtiaz Ali look exhausted!
The duo look all drained out while shooting in the fields of Punjab
Alia Bhatt and Imtiaz Ali are seen in the lush fields of Punjab shooting for their next film,Highway. The heroine and the director look super exhausted, sweating it out, trying to get a scene right. Of course, there’s a lot more happening apart from just toiling hard.
In another still, Alia seems to be making the most of her visit to Kashmir. She is seen wearing a multi-coloured sweater along with a colourful stole. And looks like the babe is in a state of trance, soaking in the sun and getting spellbound by the beautiful sunshiny weather.
The locales are beautifully captured in the visuals – be it the rising sun illuminating brightly behind the fields of Punjab or the snow capped mountains of Kashmir. Feel like watching the film just for the amazing sights….

Sonam Kapoor, director…really?
Yes, we heard that the red-carpet fashionista has bigger plans than just acting. She will some day be a movie director. Why are we giggling?
When you have a leggy lass like Sonam Kapoor walking down the red carpet at some international event, you know she belongs there. When you watch her in a film likeAisha, or even I Hate Luv Storys, she fits right in. Her hair, makeup, accessories, attitude…it is all perfectly choreographed and she looks picture perfect each time. Of course, she played an interesting character in her first, Saawariya, where her wardrobe was more interesting than her acting; Delhi-6 was neither here nor there. Then she went on to do more urban movies like I Hate Luv Storys and Aisha, where her…err…talent was superbly showcased. With Raanjhanaa she could be breaking the mould, because what we have seen of Sonam in the promos is pretty impressive.
But what has impressed us more is her resolve and her moohphat quotes. She says what she thinks and expresses her likes enthusiastically, whether for Kareena Kapoor Khan’s style statements or for Deepika Padukone’s personality. And her apologies for any tactless remarks come as easily and genuinely, wethinks. But when she recently announced that “Apart from being an actress, I want to direct films. Maybe this will happen after 10 years”, we had to stop a moment to think. Sure, she is a voracious reader and, like so many in her generation, is well-informed about cinema, but a director? Really? Hmm….. Could it be because her thespian skills are limited and it would take a very special filmmaker to bring those to the fore and there aren’t too many of those folks around? Or is it because fashion and style is ephemeral and could already be starting to get tedious…nah, we don’t think so. Or do we see the real, non-PR Sonam here, the gal who has a career plan chalked out for herself?

Is Farhan Akhtar a better actor or filmmaker?
The actor:
Farhan Akhtar essays the role of Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Releasing in July, this film will bring with it immense accolades for both Farhan and its makers. But the Eight of Swords and the Ten of Wands suggest that this film may take too many artistic liberties which may not impress a section of people. Despite this, the Queen of Pentacles reassures box office success and appreciation.
Shaadi Ke Side Effects, starring Farhan opposite Vidya Balan will have a strong opening, but theFive of Wands hints of tough competition at the box office. Hence, promotions closer to the time will be important. Tarot tip: The Queen of Cups explains the importance of targeting and pulling female audiences during publicity.
The producer:
As a producer Farhan will generally do well and in fact the World and Lovers card suggest of international collaborations that will help the production company to grow. But the company, Excel Entertainment does stifle itself through wayward planning, hence by being better organised and taking more calculated risks, the Ace of Pentacles promises new successes.
Fukrey will have a good opening but the Eight and Nine of Swords do show a drop in collections and therefore it may not be able to sustain its start. A lot of damage control can be done through an improvement in television promos.
The director:
It will be financially and creatively far more satisfying for Farhan to be directing soon. He thrives in his work when he’s in control, which is why the Strength card is reinforcing the importance of him getting back into direction. Although the years ahead will be quite temperamental and taxing on him, but its his own directorial venture that will keep things afloat.
The Wheel of Fortune and the Ace of Swords show how blessed Farhan is as a director – he knows how to hit the right formulas and get the desired reactions. In the coming times he will present interesting story lines in unexpected and creatively stimulating fashion.
Youth icon:
Being an icon comes quite naturally to him. He doesn’t make an effort, but only follows up on what he believes in. The High Priestess and the Empress card both explain his natural ability to be instinctive and to feel for causes, such as MARD (Men Against Rape & Discrimination). Such endeavours will keep the youth connected to him and he will continue to grow such organisations.
Overall, Farhan does have a lot on his plate, but he is a natural multitasker. Although the next 2 years (2014-2015) are tough years for him, but he will fight them out quite strongly and overcome personal and professional challenges quite well.
